Pink slips stack up as recession drags on

WASHINGTON (AP) - Worn down by a drawn-out recession, cost-cutting employers are laying off workers at an alarming clip and there's no end in sight. The Labor Department releases a report Friday expected to show that January was another cruel month for workers and companies.

With employers in no mood to hire, the unemployment rate is expected to jump to 7.5 percent… Continue

Living Life with Conviction of The Heart

Where are the dreams that we once had?

This is the time to bring them back.

What were the promises caught

On the tips of our tongues?

Do we forget or forgive?

There's a whole other life waiting to be lived when...

One day we're brave enough

To talk with conviction of the heart.

And down your streets I've walked alone,

As if my feet were not my own

Such is the path I chose,

Doors I have opened and closed

I'm so tired of living this… Continue

Move that Client Forward with Little Yesses

Don’t ask your client if they would like to hire the candidate you are marketing. Because then they can say, ‘We’re not hiring,’ and your conversation is over.

Instead, move them forward with what I call ‘Little Yesses.’ One little yes moves it forward to another little yes, and then after about ten more little yesses, they are fedex’ing you a check for the candidate you just placed there.

Ask them this question: “Is this the type of candidate who can provide value to your… Continue

Interesting take on mind-set - positive psychology

Went to a seminar last night and was pleasantly surprised by the topic of positive psychology. Here is an interesting site with more about it.

Just think we need 3 positives to neutralize one negative. So if we offer 4 positive reflections for every one negative, than the mindset can change to act more positively. But without this ratio - it is highly possible that a person's mindset stays in the negative realm.....

Very interesting… Continue

What do your emails really say to your customers?

It should not come as a surprise that the communication style of the general public has changed drastically in the last decade or so. Cell phones, instant messaging, and text messages are so common that I put it past you to find anybody under 65 who is completely unaware how to use any of the aforementioned technology, or at least how it works. While this increase in instant communication means that connecting with others is faster and easier than ever it seems to come at a relatively high… Continue

Natural anti aging is more than just a pipe dream, it is a reality. It does not come in the form of a fountain of youth or a magical potion; natural anti aging is based in indisputable science. Scientists have come to identify the aging process as just a condition of hormone deficiency. Therefore, it stands to reason that…

Cutting Fees!?!??!?!? My 2 cents

I am starting to hear about agencies cutting fees to get business. Please understand when you do this you bring the entire industry down. We offer a great service and even if the unemployment is up the good talent is hard to find. The reason is that they are working and will not be on the job boards. Don't become a bottom feeder, I can tell you from being a recruiter for other downturns that you will never get your fee back up with a client once you cut your fees. I remember other agencies… Continue

The Serendipitous Nature of our Business!

Every so often something magical happens, no doubt the non-believer chalks it up to "coincidence"....

Last night I was scouring linkedin for a ABAP'er found one that was perfect for my role. however his profile was a tad cryptic and my efforts to find alternate contact info was in vain.

As I am viewing his profile he emails me out of the blue asking about ABAP roles in the NY area. I proceeded to dial his number and this morning made a great referral.

Thought I would share this… Continue

Web site traffic creation

Get linked. This is a very important part of website management. Exchange links. Trading links with other websites that are closely related to the subject of your website can bring you more website traffic. These are two-way links because you must provide a link to them, too, and linking to low-quality websites can threaten the credibility of yours. Only link to sites that are dead on topic, and truly help your visitors. Instead of trading links, you could also trade banner ads, half page… Continue

New concept (?) - No Cure No Pay Job Board

I've been recruiting non-Dutch speakers for jobs in The Netherlands since May '08. February 2nd, our new site went live, offering more advanced and automated features. I am now able to offer my clients a no cure no pay job board model, next to a classic agency model. So what does this mean?

Candidates and recruiters can sign up themselves and define their profile/job posting. Included is a broad set of match criteria to automatically match candidates with jobs. Furthermore people can… Continue

Increased applicant flow is giving you a false sense of security

Times have changed.... quickly.

Companies have re-gained the upper hand in the previously so-called 'candidate market'. Applicant flow for open positions is growing, almost to where it was right after the Dot.com bubble burst.

The 'post and pray' strategy is now the 'post and pick' strategy. The mis-conception is that quantity = quality, sure it increases the liklihood of a successful hire, but your screening and your interview process needs to be… Continue

My Networking Value...

Over the the last 5 years my networking strategy was really more about quantity. As I watched my networking value grow in terms of quantity, the necessity for an infusion of quality became much more apparent. For the past year or two my efforts in growing my networking value have been great, but not entirely focused on quality.

2009 is all about quality, as I often find myself wasting time with serving only the quantity side of the balance in my network.

I'm very much… Continue
