JOB SECURITY IS OUT, FLEXIBLE JOBS ARE IN!

In his work life, the average worker will change career between 3 and 7 times: that is not counting the number of times he or she will change jobs within the same career trend. Is this due to a generational trait, where workers put a high value on new opportunities, variety (Flexible jobs) or is it the result of the evolution of companies’ needs following globalization? Are those two as conflicting as they may seem at first glance?

How Obama Will Fix the Economy And Re-Invent Recruiting

Ask anyone in the Obama administration about the country’s present unemployment situation and you will probably get the standard talking point answers.

It goes something like this:  We inherited a very bad economy, and in the first term the stimulus was very helpful in reducing the unemployment rate.  But we still have a long way to go, because there are millions of…

14 Interviews???

HI-

I would love to hear some advice/feedback surrounding a recent experience I have had with a new client and candidate.

We were notified of a very important "urgent" role with a Fortune 500 Company 3 1/2 months ago. Their need was "urgent" and "critical".

We sent them three candidates in less than one week.

Our top candidate went through an interview process that included meeting with 14 people (C level execs included) throughout the organization. On…

Staffing Karma - A Reality of Recruiting Professionalism

They say "what goes around comes around" and I suppose this is a universal truth.  This blog post has been on my mind for sometime, with much to think on and put forth.

The reality of every interaction is this, we are blessed by what we put in, and what we get back.  Nothing more was readily apparent in this past week than this…

The Other Re-Recruiting

Have you heard of this term –re-recruiting? It’s becoming quite popular lately for several reasons. For retention experts, re-recruiting means re-engaging the workforce, to end up with a renewed passion and loyalty in the employee-employer relationship. What we’re talking about though is recruiting former quality employees for the benefit of the…

Cognitive Bias and Recruiting - How Employers Decide Who Get the Job

I was reading this article from Jim Stodgill the other day, it is really good - make sure you bookmark it and read it. I came across this statement and had to take a beat:

Well, anger in the face of ill-considered certainty is reasonable as far as I’m concerned. Unearned certainty…

US Jobs Report Falls Below Expectations, Adding Just 113,000 Jobs in January

This morning, the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) released their Employment Situation Summary for January, showing that the US economy added 113,000 jobs last month. This fell short than what was predicted by many economists. However, the unemployment rate notched down from 6.7% to 6.6%, marking a new 5-year low. The BLS also released updated November and December data, with 34,000 more jobs in these months then were…

Jobs for resumes or Resumes for jobs?

It’s the knack of closing more jobs in less time that lands you here in Recruitment. Technology has gone by far with Industry standards to make your work a lot easier then it used to be. So here’s the thing; either match resumes to job advertised or vice versa. This really seems to be an interesting preposition as more can be done in lesser time, but…

How to Identify Great Contract Candidates

As contract staffing becomes a long-term business strategy in many organizations, companies are increasingly turning to recruiters to find the best contract candidates. But what does the best contract candidate look like?

Beyond the traits you search for in ANY candidate, there are a few traits to look for specifically in contractors:

  1. Do they crave variety? If so, contract assignments are perfect. They will get the opportunity to work for different…

If you're a hottie then your video interview can be this bad if you're looking for sales jobs like her...guys included I guess

Maybe sometimes standing out in an interview isn't always the best thing.  But as every recruiter already knows, sometimes it's the worst of times that provide the most memorable - and funny - moments in an otherwise often dull daily professional existence.  And this one will crack you up.

Would you hire her?

If the answer is yes, go for it - she's probably still looking for a job.  Proof that in interviews, there are no stupid questions, but there are plenty of stupid…

Ditch the Double Standard

The good news: for at least a few people I’ve spoken with recently, the job market seems a bit warmer so far this year than it has been in quite a while. Let’s hope so!

The bad news: applying and interviewing for jobs is just as cumbersome as ever.

The ugly news: many employers must have missed the memo about candidates actually caring how…
