There are probably not too many people who would turn down the chance to work from home. But how many do you know who would take a pay cut to do so?
Well, according to a recent NetworkWorld article, 35 percent of information technology workers would accept a lower salary to telecommute. In fact, they would take a cut of up to 10…

A client and I have been having this ongoing discussion about what kind of first impressions Recruiting Professionals are making when they send an email from an AOL, GMAIL or Hotmail account.
As a candidate, client or as a Recruiting Professional ~
Is it important to have a company email address? Why or Why not?
What kind of impression does a Recruiting professional give you when they send an email from a NON-COMPANY email address?

Having to put together your CV can be a daunting task. Especially if you haven't got one and are starting from scratch, or do have one but it needs the dust and cobwebs blown from it.
In a couple of previous posts I've taken you through what I believe to be …

You are in the job market. Either you are not working and actively applying for jobs, your working but for whatever reason the writing is on the wall or you got a call from a pro-active recruiter.
You start chatting about the general details of the job and then the question comes up, what are you looking to make....
You try to give an answer like negotiable, market rate or "we can come to an agreement" but the conversation is stalled without an actual data…

Last two weekends I spent spring cleaning my garage (in between doing some visits and being generally sociable). I verge on the side of the 'that's gonna be useful in years to come' philosophy and as anyone similar will know, it means you need to clean it all out every few years because generally it never is useful.
Anyway, task done for this 5 year cycle and as a result I now have a clean and tidy garage where anything can be found quickly and easily. I even have room for…

When conducting county criminal background checks for employment screening purposes, be aware that you, the employer, are hnot suppose3d to consider sealed or expunged records. This would seem simple t first, as sealed or expunged records should not be returned to you.
But, like with many things, it is not always as clear cut as it first appears.Sometimes when conducting background checks for clients we will find that records show that a record has been sealed. Or there is a…

How do you build a talent community? Is there a step by step method of creating and building a community? Today, I answer those questions differently.
In the past, I described the approach to building community as a recipe. With great confidence, I proclaimed there were 6 elements to the Talent Community Recipe—all you have to do is mix the right ingredients and your talent community is baked.

This week I took part in a #Radchat on Recruiting and some of the issues in the profession moving forward. There was alot of talk about mystique, “magic”, Smoke and Mirrors, and how its an issue to find the line where Sourcing stops and Recruiting begins. Now I know I’m still fairly new in this circle, and I will be the first to admit I don’t have the answers, but I do have some sure-fire ways to get them and be successful.
1. Ask Questions and lots of them, you will never know…

Recruiters and employers alike are asking the same question:
How do we handle a potential candidate who is subject to a non-compete agreement from their previous employer?
Until fairly recently, most employers did the same thing - ignored that candidate in favour of what was easier (yes, even some recruiters may have been tempted to do the same thing!). That was ok when non-competes were a rare thing. Or within an expected industry role (ie:…

Does this title resonate with you? If so, it’s probably because you’re either looking for a job or recently spoke to a candidate that is really frustrated by how long they’ve been looking. In either case, it makes complete sense for someone who has been out of work for a while to be feeling frustrated, angry, hopeless or depressed.
Let’s start with a candidate scenario. While trying to find the perfect candidate, you come across a beautiful resume. You get the person on…

Administrative assistants are in place to support a company, team or manager. Although they act as the lifeblood for most businesses, there is a common misconception that it’s an easy job that anyone can do. This, however, is not true, and there are many very specific qualities that differentiate a good administrative assistant from a great one.
With the economy in…
