Well - I find that the end of summer has finally come, and what a memorable one it was.  As I joined my family this Monday for a nice and relaxing movie at our local Library, I ventured upon this statue in the courtyard of that venue.  It is a Pioneer memorial.  In 1847 - LDS/Mormon Pioneers entered the Salt Lake Valley after a 1000+ mile trek westward to…

"What is Sourcing?" vs. "What Does a Sourcer Do?"

A term definition works if the majority of practitioners agree to it. It's quite remarkable, that with Sourcing becoming hugely popular and necessary, we still lack a definition.

Is Mr. Smarty Pants Skewing Your Team Alignment?

Experts and high-profile business leaders everywhere are telling employers “Hire people who are smarter than you are.” It makes a lot of sense, smart people are generally good at what they do, they can be an excellent resource, and your informal training ends up being pretty rock star status. However, what are the Joe Schmoes, and the Michael Scotts of the…

Whoever said that “a failure to plan is a plan to fail” didn’t understand planning. Unless mentally impaired, no one actually plans to fail; what really happens is they fail to take into consideration the one element that kills the chances of any plan succeeding—emotion.

Logic makes people think while it’s emotion that makes them act. All variations of planning, be they strategic plans, project plans, or broader business plans are exercises in logic. Done right, they make…

Here’s another recruitment myth that needs to be punched in the face

irony photo irony3_zps9a763c94.jpeg

It’s kind of funny that recruiters are often considered to be “too salesy”.

I suspect what people mean when they describe agency recruiters this way is that they act like salespeople. That they display all of the hackneyed stereotypes that are associated with salespeople – or more accurately, bad salespeople.

Great salespeople don’t display these characteristics, because of the very fact that they are great…
