Considering the current economic climate, most organizations are tightening their collective belts when it comes to cash expenditures. The area that seems to be targeted very quickly is recruiting and hiring budgets. Whether your company or customers have placed hiring on freeze or simply slowed things down, it is almost a sure thing that the action taking place is being done with less money being spent. Unfortunately, people looking for a job don't care what our budget looks like, they want a…

This is a subject and conversation that I have had with so many people over the years. With it there comes a lot of strong opinions from all sides stating their perspective on why/why not to do this, or how to approach it. It surfaced this morning in a discussion about why people will not take certain jobs, and the fact that a high powered engineer we were working with has been turning down job offers in this economy. Do people do that I was asked……the answer is YES and for good…

There is an enormous amount of myth and mistaken thinking in the professional services arena around pricing and fee structures.
Myth: It's a price sensitive market
Reality: It's a value sensitive market
Myth: Start cheap to enter the market and capture your share
Reality: You have now set the benchmark low and customers will always want you to be that cheap
Myth: The competition will charge less than me and I will lose the business
Reality:…

Dear Claudia,
I was assigned to support a really great hiring manager at my company last year; he’s a good boss to his employees and a great hiring partner, and has never made any unstable or inappropriate gestures that I know of at work. So when we were talking in his office the other day and he suddenly asked if I would close the door, I was curious; then he showed me a gun in his desk drawer. I asked if it was loaded and he said no, he had just bought it and wanted to “show it… Continue

I am trying to break into the business and I am interviewing with both Robert Half and Ajilon. I don't want to sound naive, but I have read the posts on the Vault by former employees of both companies and they are not positive. Does anyone have any feedback on this?

Hello,
I'm sure you have all discussed this before, but I am new to recruitingblogs.com so I apologize if this is a duplication.
I ran into a situation today, that actually happens frequently and am not sure how others might address this.
I sent a resume to a client company today, after thoroughly screening the candidate and confirming that the candidate had not sent her resume to my client of course.
After submitting the resume and summary, I was emailed by the client…

I am currently a recruiter of recruiters for the staffing industry and I am seeking some feedback. Do you as fellow recruiters use recruiters and if not, how come? If you have used a recruiter to find a new position, what was the best/worst part of your experience. I am not trying to gain business here, just looking to improve my skills and learn from my fellow recruiters. Thank you.

We all have seen all the advice/tips that we all shared here on how to become a successful recruiter and they are all awesome tips for sure:)
One thing though that I would like to add, base on my 4 years in recruiting plus 3 years working in customer service and Team Lead (leading 20 people under my care and management)- I would like to add how having the best intention for everyone you deal with definitely takes that relationship to a level that which is-…

Even as a huge fan of
Google's Chrome browser I'm always looking for great ways to customize my experience and use the browser to it's fullest potential - at least for what I do. My real goal is to find quick and easy ways to streamline my job and the job of my team by maximizing the power of various web based tools, applications, and software suites. So when Chrome came out I was both excited and a bit…

I was happy with Bounty Jobs from the client side (see below for my feedback and critique of BJ). IMO the BJ concept is break through but still early in development as has a lot of room for improvement. I think to some degree you are splitting hairs by seeking to determine the total number of placements done by the BJ community. If you can do a few extra deals a year through BJ that is a no brainer for a free service. What reason can you give not to have BJ as one tool/platform you utilize. Of…

We are in a time that every dollar spent needs to be spent well. Many recruiters have had to cut costs by losing staff and having to do the legwork themselves. What if there was an option to take the legwork away and have someone else do it for a fraction of the cost that it usually would.
Outsourcing may be a scary word that sounds like it can be used only for big business. The option of outsourcing that I offer is different. I am talking about minimal training and management with maximum…

I've just joined recruitingblogs.com and am so happy that a network exists for networking with fellow recruiters. Unfortunately today was the day that the recession made a direct impact on me, I was laid off due to budgets/cutbacks, etc. I would very much like to network with fellow recruiters in my position to put our heads together and effectively survive this recession. I am a senior technical recruiter who has worked in agency settings both as a recruiter and a recruiting manager. I am…

I'm so pleased to have been awarded the prize in the Smart Recruiters contest!
Jason called today to let me know the good news.
I'm honored to have been selected and look forward to a Master Chef coming to cook for 6 of us in my home.
Thanks guys.
P.S. I checked out the free ATS (applicant tracking sytem) software) over at SmartRecruiters.com and registered. It looks promising.
