Ready to return to robust growth! Thoughts on Jack Daly’s six principles

I have to tell you, I’m done with the “new normal.” Let’s get back to business! It was in this state of mind that I recently attended a Colorado CEO Forum where I had the good fortune to hear speaker/author/trainer/coach Jack Daly. What a refreshing perspective he offered on the opportunities for robust growth in any market.…

Hiring: Can You Do Better Than Flipping a Coin?

Most top executives admit that they have repeatedly hired people who are “B” or “C” players, who have had an adverse impact on the company, who needed to be replaced. Most will admit they have someone on their staff right now that fits this description. Many studies have shown…

Company Pays More Than $1 Million to Settle I-9 Fine

A recent fine levied against an Ohio-based company should serve as a warning to employers that simple recordkeeping mistakes on I-9s could cost them big.

According to a recent Human Resource Executive Online article, Abercrombie & Fitch agreed to pay $1,047,110 to settle the fine that was waged after a 2008 U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE)…

The Biggest Obstacle on Recruiters' Desks Right Now is . . .

What happended to determining scope, excercising moderation and common sense ROI...

I like and agree with the post except the job board and ATS graveyard comment.

Everything in our (recruiters, sourcers, talent acqusition specialists, headhunter, whatever title you go by etc.) arsenal has it's place: university recruitment, job boards, ATS systems, etc.. As we globally compete to hire the "best of the best" (quote from the movie The Men in Black) for our customers, clients, etc. we need to look at the process like a doctor selecting the right prescription for…

Waging War

Armed with increasing demand for our services, it’s high time staffing and recruiting professionals take up the good fight for improved responsiveness from clients and candidates. More timely decision-making allows everyone involved in the hiring process to get back to the more important work within companies that fuels productivity, growth, and earnings. Unlike crusades based upon hate and fear, this battle mobilizes talent within organizations and capitalizes on the belief in… Continue

Most Influential Online Recruiters

So another list has been issued by the good folks over at HR Examiner. This time around, it's an update - the first of its kind - to one of their previous lists. The review takes a shot at picking out, with the "least amount of human intervention possible," who the most influential online recruiters are today.…

Gaps are hard to sell, so do something about them...

Resume gaps if left to themselves will bring more attention from the hiring manager than the rest of your bountiful experience and valuable skills. Why? Because no one wants to hire what they *might* perceive as a “problem”. What do I mean by a problem, I mean an employee that presents well in person, scores the position, and then before you know it their true colours come out...those amazing skills – they don’t…

An Apology To All Job Seekers

Everybody gets to be a job seeker in their adult life! I have had the privilege of being a job seeker, the employer who is looking to hire someone for a job and the recruitment agency that is looking

for the right person for the job. Recruitment agencies do not have the best

reputation out there and they do little to cover themselves in glory. Their

purpose is to serve both the hiring…

The Recruiting Profession is SO DEAD and LinkedIn has killed it, and they are unstoppable.

This was a comment on this thread, which I decided to just reformat as a blog post, adding a few lines here and there to extend/clarify.

The evergreen "Recruiters are finished" will never, ever, ever come true. Firms have a qualification view of people, while Recruiters have a market view of people. The two mindsets will never go away, and the market view is the more powerful and accurate…

Do You Hold Out on SPEAKING UP at Work?

Figuring out when to speak up in the workplace can be tricky: maybe you were asked about something controversial and were afraid to speak about it or maybe someone wanted constructive criticism and you chose to keep to yourself instead. Do you know what you would do in situations like these? People usually don’t speak up because of fear of risk and specifically, fear of offending those above them. Employees who are afraid to speak up and communicate ideas at work may miss out on amazing…

Hide and Seek

The game of hide-and-seek seems to be as popular today as it was when we played it as children. What a thrill to find that great hiding place or to be the person who is “it”. Finding quality clients ready to buy in the new economy reminds me in many ways of a really challenging game of hide-and-seek — some buyers seem to have found really great hiding places. David, an account manager for a firm in Virginia, recently shared that “not only do many of my prospects and clients seem… Continue
