Jason Gorham's Sharkstrike and other tools

I spoke with Jason Gorham about his tools today. I just tried his Sharkstrike product and was curious about it and the Careermetasearch site. Here's what I understand now - I wanted to share this with others.

Jason is an expert in keyword marketing. He and his company have collected very valuable data over the years: the keywords people and companies use when they search on Google, and when they advertise on Google.

This collection can be taken advantage of in many… Continue

Trick or Treating insights

On Halloween I took my 3 year old to a local mall for trick or treating. As we went around the different retailers, most gave out stickers, and the candy that was given out was mostly dum-dum's and small tootsie rolls. Clearly not the year of the retailer. What really caught my attention was that several companies decided either to give out coupons (15 off your next 75 dollar purchase at our store) or simply did not participate.

It left such an impression on me, that I found my self… Continue

SmartRecruiters Ask for Change...

SmartRecruiters As the train pulled in this morning I waved at my fellow and familiar commuters. I shared where I'd been for a week to those that asked as we boarded the same double decker mode of transportation that pulls out of the station at the same time every day. I moved to the back of the car to my normal seat, fired up the laptop, and sipped on my coffee (from my new JuJu travel mug) and thought to myself, "It's good to get back into my morning groove where things are dependable and the… Continue

Getting your resume found

I wrote this following entry on my website to encourage Job Seekers to post their resume on a home page
http://web.me.com/hydra9/Resume/Getting_your_resume_found.html

Certain professions like Software Engineers are far more likely to put together a Home Page with their resume than others but many of use search engines to find candidates.

Year end close out sale! Everything must go.

Football season is almost over, and winter is on the way. Cold, runny noses, shorter days, and a time when everyone is looking forward to the Holidays, but during this time of the year, I really like it!

When the alarm goes off Monday morning, I'm a happy camper. I pop into the office with a big toothy grin, folks stare blankly as I saunter over to the coffee pot (Hey, it's free) and give everyone a wink and a nod.

Remember all those old reqs where the manager likes to… Continue

Changing Applicant Tracking System Vendors

Many of the popular applicant tracking system (ATS) vendors continue to strengthen their client retention rates. Hirebridge currently boasts a better than 98% retention rate. However, there are a number of users looking to switch to a different ATS for a variety of reasons. Below are highlights of the biggest factors I’ve found for changing to a different ATS.

Price

The pricing of ATSs has become one of the largest areas of competition for vendors. Many web based (SaaS model)… Continue

Is Recruiter Blogging Worthwhile?

The glamour has faded, that's for sure. But the Minnesota Headhunter thinks so even though he neglects his blog. He spells out the value in detail here. (Short audio)

Amex's ConneXion with Social Networking

Flying high with social networking (3 pages)

I'm wondering if within a company that uses social networking platforms recruiting and marketing, these two groups ever get together to collaborate, or are they mutually exclusive efforts? Are silos forever???

Is Free really Free?

This has been some very exciting times for us and for the industry! SmartRecruiters Beta was launched last week at the ERE conference in Florida and we have been overwhelmed by the great response we have received so far. We got some fantastic feedback and support from all sorts of different people and we are really excited to find that so many people are really interested in what we are doing.

An interesting question that we have received time and again before and after the launch of… Continue

DON'T CALL (Me Names)

Slightly more than a scant two years ago one of those lively "discussions" (75 replies) broke out over on ERE about the effectiveness of cold calling into companies. The original proposition asked for advice/thoughts from the group about the legality of calling into… Continue

Digging Into RecruitingBlogs.com v1.23

Boo.

(Oct 31, 2008) My trip to India was no less than a complete mental enema. Although the image is a bit harsh, my cherished assumptions were challenged again and again. On my return, the simplest of Western luxuries seem like overabundance.

I don't know why, but I have this recurring fantasy that moments of transformation are supposed to be fun. That the correct response to deep insight and breakthrough thinking is joy. That letting go of the old and shepherding in the…

The Goal posts change once more

We talk a lot in my organisation about the need for flexibility and adaptability, the old ability to roll with the punches so to speak, whilst still mananging to achieve something of real value. Man am I living that this year...

I blogged earlier this year about my company doubting whether or not my team and i could deliver what they wanted us to. I am proud to say now that we did and more! To the point where we ended up having potentially more people then we really needed. Yay us...? Then… Continue

An old dog is learning new tricks - maybe

There is a point in a life that learning new tricks is beyond physical capabilities or mental comprehension. However, I am finding that with the advent in the wealth of social media sites an old dog like me has a great chance of learning new tricks.

For any old folk who can remember party lines, the internet can be very intimidating. Most people my age are just getting rid of their rolodexes and discovering emails. My brother sent me a message recently telling me that he is going to… Continue

Why not me?

I hear that a lot from some of the clients I work with and I try and I try and tell them that they are asking the wrong questions. Here is my view on this topic:

-No person will ever be more then they think about themselves

-You are what you think and not what you do (Every time)

-We may not believe it, but we are exactly where we should be (Because that was the programmed state we are in until we change it)

-A client was passed over for promotion and… Continue

Unprofessional to want to be like Slouch

Or so someone emailed me - undoubtedly without understanding our community; didn't even catch the drift that I was having some RBC fun. So I replaced my Slouch picture with something more professional. Hope you like it!
